Double Ridge Waveguide Electromechanical Switches from Fairview Microwave

Electromechanical Waveguide Switches are used to route high power RF, Microwave, and mm-Wave signals in applications that may involve the use of power amplifiers, electronic warfare, electronic countermeasures, microwave radio, VSAT, SATCOM, radar, research and development, space systems, and test instrumentation.  Electromechanical switch designs with Double Ridge Waveguide ports benefit in wider frequency bandwidths and lower characteristic impedance when compared with conventional waveguides.

Fairview's new offering of 12 different models of Double Ridge Waveguide Electromechanical 4 port switches are configured for single pole double throw (SPDT) break before make operation.  A shorting plate on port 3 can be removed for optional double pole double throw (DPDT) operation.  These switches offer full waveguide performance over broad multi-octave frequency bands that range from 6.5 GHz to 40 GHz.  The compact package designs have integrated Double Ridge waveguide ports with UG cover flanges.  Popular waveguide sizes include WRD-650, WRD-750, and WRD-180.

All switch models use a latching self cut off actuator where the switch stays in position until a DC voltage commands the switch to change the RF path.  At power loss, the actuator remains in its last position.  Some models support TTL logic command control circuitry.  All switch models use an innovative motor drive design with arc suppression and includes a viewable position indicator that features manual override access.  The package also supports a quick connect circular 6 pin MIL-SPEC DC connector with mate included.

Impressive typical performance includes down to 0.2 dB insertion loss and up to 89 dB isolation.  Typical switching speed ranges from 38 to 65 msec depending on the model.  The designs operate across a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, require either +12 or +28 Vdc nominal voltages, and have input power handling capability up to 8.5 kW peak.  Designed for highly reliable rugged operation, these switches are fully weatherized for up to 100% humidity exposure and have an operating life of 250K cycles minimum.
